AI tools like Microsoft Copilot can save real time. But they're not magic, and using them in the wrong place creates risk. Here's how we think about it.

Where AI shines

  • First drafts. Emails, proposals, policies and reports, ready for a human to refine.
  • Summaries. Long email threads, meeting recordings and documents, condensed in seconds.
  • Finding things. Answering questions from your own documents and data.
  • Analysis. Spotting trends in spreadsheets you'd never have time to dig through.

Where to be careful

  • Anything that must be exactly right. AI can be confidently wrong. Figures, legal wording and technical specifications need checking.
  • Decisions about people. Hiring, performance and customer eligibility need human judgement and accountability.
  • Sensitive data. If your permissions are messy, AI will surface information to people who shouldn't see it.

Getting it right

Start with a readiness assessment to find overshared data, write a simple AI use policy, and pilot with a small group on real tasks. Measure the time saved, then expand.
